Step 6:

Inspections and Insulation

 

Our Production Manager was on vacation for a week, so no real updates for about two weeks.  We did however speak to our sales agent about whether or not we were in our 60 day completions window (we had previously been told that by this point we would be 6 weeks away from closing), turns out that our sales agent not only had no idea, but gave us a rough guess of us being 3-4 months away still.  This sent us into a bit of a panic attack.  3-4 months?  We were promised a September/October delivery, this new timeframe puts us in a November/December timeframe.  Well, after begging her to look in to it the Production Manager that was overseeing our house for the week said we are looking to be on track for early November.  That was a much better answer, but still not what we wanted to hear,  Why the set back?  Also, it seems that there was a week delay during this time while our Production Manager was on vacation.  His last email update said we would have insulation installed while he was on vacation, but it was not installed until the week after he got back.  Again, no explanation as to why.  Did we fail an inspection, was a delivery not made? I completely understand set back, and we are more than willing to accept them as they come with the territory, it just seems that we have a very poor level of communication.  We have tried to inquire about these issues, but as with the foundation issue, no one seems to be interested in answering our questions.

Beyond that small mess, this is where we are now. 
All inspections have passed and our insulation has been put up. 

When we went to check out the house we found a charming surprise,

We found muddy hand prints all over the house, inside and out.  Now that the house is locked up at the end of the work day the only culprit can be the construction crew. We didn't mind at all, and found it amusing.  I'm glad they have been enjoying themselves during the build process. What I didn't get a photo of was all the trash left all over, soda cans, water bottles, chip bags.  I have heard from others that have had homes built that this is common, so again I didn't mind, but it is rather unsightly to see your future home littered with trash like you had a college party. 

 I have to say though, that it is so neat to walk in the house now!  It was a cool day outside when we went to check it out, but inside the house was so warm. 

Another exciting surprise that we found was that the drywall supplies had been delivered.

I need to remember to ask why the basement insulation is uncovered but the rest of the house was covered with a layer of paper, paper that had warning label... about being very flammable.  Not very reassuring, but I am sure it's all good.
