The Starter Home Part 3

  Step 4:

Foundation

The long awaited day came.  We stopped by one day and found a hole where our grassy lot once was.  I have never been so excited over a pile of dirt in my life.  It was a beautiful site, literally.

It only took about a week to dig the site and pour the foundation. Unfortunately, this was also the stormiest week of the summer and of course things couldn't go too smoothly.  We went to check out the site and found the back wall to be cracked and buckling in.

This caused a huge set back.  Our project manager had never experienced this type of issue before and handed the repair work off to their engineer.  Honestly... This was the most stressful part of this whole process and we considered paying the cancelation fees and walking away due to extremely poor communication and customer service.

It took 6 weeks to get the foundation repaired.  During which time we checked in weekly with our project manager who consistently told us, he was not 'dealing with it' and that he was sure it would be back on track the following week.  It wasn't until on the 5th week that we demanded to speak with his supervisor and have some sort of answer that we were told it was confirmed to be the following week and that we were not behind schedule because our framework was not scheduled until 6 weeks after the original foundation work.  Whether we were feed lies or got lucky on our demand timing we will never know, but sure enough by the following week we have a new and perfect looking foundation.
